Solar Powered Super Bowl

January 28, 2008

This year’s Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, will be the first ever powered completely with green power by using solar, wind and geo-thermal energy to offset the greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition to the game, Salt River Project--the local provider of electricity for the Glendale facility--will also offset emissions for events leading up to the game as well as two Phoenix hotels where Super Bowl guests will be staying.  According to a Salt River Project spokesperson, the offsets will be accomplished by planting trees in forest areas that were burned by fires.
