Toyota to Have HEVs in Every Series

January 07, 2008

Toyota President Katsuaki Watanabe announced that the company plans to offer a hybrid model in every vehicle series.

Encouraged by the success of the Prius, 1.25 million cars sold since its 1997 launch, Toyota has set a goal of selling 1 million hybrids a year beginning in the early 2010s. It estimates its hybrids have helped avoid 5 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Watanabe said Toyota also is working on cellulosic ethanol and lithium-ion batteries.
