Berks County, PA to Pursue No-Cost Greening Effort

March 09, 2009

The County Commissioners of Berks County, PA are pursuing green procurement initiatives that will allow them to go green without spending green to do it.  On March 5th, the commission—meeting in the county seat of Reading—adopted a measure to consider environmentally friendly offers when taking bids for county projects. The measure allows the county commissioners to evaluate project costs and environmentally friendly development options.

According to Berks County Purchasing Manager, Kelly Laubach, "We're not committing any additional funds to do this. We're looking at finding ways to look at green resources in an efficient and effective financial manner as well. And we're going to be doing that with the commissioners and with their approval each time."
