L.A. Streets Will Soon be Illuminated by LEDs

February 23, 2009

Los Angeles is saving money and cutting emissions by switching its 140,000 streetlight fixtures to LED units over the next five years with help from the Clinton Climate Initiative.
The upgraded lighting system is expected to save the city $48 million in energy and maintenance costs and cut carbon emissions by 197,000 tons over a seven-year period. The initiative estimates the effect is the equivalent of taking 6,700 passenger vehicles off the road annually.
