Green Seal Paint Standards Revision Planned

April 26, 2007

Green Seal, Inc. announced plans to revise its independent environmental standards for GS-11 Architectural Coatings (Paints) and GS-03 Anti-Corrosive Paints and has called for comments on relevant issues to consider.

As planned, the revision will incorporate environmental and technological improvements achieved since the organization first issued the two paint standards in the 1990s. Green Seal is seeking comments about relevant issues that will broaden and clarify the scope of the products currently defined by GS-11 and GS-03.

In accordance with ISO guidelines, Green Seal will provide an open, transparent process in its GS-11 and GS-03 revision.  After initial suggestions on scope have been considered, stakeholders may comment on a draft proposal.   The Responsible Purchasing Network has submitted suggestions to Green Seal and plans to participate in the stakeholder revision process.  To submit comments and join the process, email with the subject header: "GS-11 and GS-03 revision scope" by May 1, 2007.

Green Seal, Inc., a national third-party environmental certifier, also certifies recycled-content latex paints under its recent GS-43 standard.
